The LA Chargers waived standout edge rusher Caleb Murphy to make room for the return of Khalil Mack and Denzel Perryman in Week 7. That decision instantly backfired with a huge special teams blunder that may not have happened if Murphy was on the field.
It backfired in more ways than one, however. The Chargers, who were definitely hoping to get Murphy back on the practice squad to keep him in the ecosystem, had to say goodbye to the special-teams standout on Monday.
The New England Patriots claimed Murphy off waivers, officially ending his Chargers' tenure long before anyone expected it to end.
