Chargers' Johnson needs surgery for meniscus

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Stevie Johnson has a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Chargers head coach Mike McCoy confirmed report by ESPN's Adam Schefter that WR Stevie Johnson will have surgery to repair torn meniscus in right knee.

McCoy said he would love for Johnson to make it back for regular season opener on Sept. 11 at Kansas City, but team will not establish a time table for Johnson's return until cleanup surgery is performed this week.

Johnson injured his right knee Sunday when making a diving catch and had to be helped off of the field to the training room at Chargers Park.
