Chargers fire coach Mike McCoy

The Mike McCoy Era is over.

The Chargers announced after the 37-27 loss Sunday to the Kansas City Chiefs that McCoy, their coach since 2013, will not return return for the 2017 season.

McCoy directed the Chargers to a 27-37 record over his four regular seasons and, in 2013, the franchise’s only playoff victory over the past seven years.

The team has lost 23 of its last 32 games, finishing last both seasons in the AFC West.

“Mike McCoy is a man of high character, and we thank him for his dedication to the Chargers,” said Chargers President of Football Operations John Spanos, who played a key role in hiring McCoy, in a statement released by the team.
