Chargers Expected To Re-Sign Veteran TE Jeff Cumberland

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Chargers are expected to re-sign veteran TE Jeff Cumberland.

Cumberland, 29, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in 2010. He was in the final year of his three-year, $5.7 million contract when he was released by the Jets last year.

The Chargers later signed him to a one-year, $840,000 contract before last year’s draft.

Unfortunately, his 2016 season ended during the preseason when he suffered an Achilles tear and was later placed on injured reserve.

In 2015, Cumberland appeared in 15 games and recorded five receptions for 77 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
