Chargers comfortable with cap space

INDIANAPOLIS — He inherited a misfortune.

Jared Gaither and Robert Meachem clogged the books when Tom Telesco became general manager in 2013. It took two years to clear $15.91 million of dead money. He had to start over at the cornerback position. He caught and released Derek Cox, creating $3.9 million in dead money for 2014, before identifying more capable alternatives in the draft and free agency.

Cap space has not always been on Telesco's side.

It is now.

The Chargers carried about $2.29 million in unused cap room from the 2015 to 2016 league year, the NFL Players Association announced Thursday.
