Amid fallout, Bolts OL sees big challenge but also big potential

Quick hits on the overhauled offensive line of the team formerly known as the San Diego Chargers.

1) By my view, 2010 was the last time the team’s line was average-plus for most of a season.

2) Erratic line play has plagued several recent teams. Long-term answers weren’t found at left guard and left tackle after injuries ended the careers of multiple Pro Bowlers Kris Dielman and Marcus McNeil by late 2011. A dropoff at center — sometimes steep —followed Nick Hardwick’s final season, in 2013, which also may have been Hardwick’s best year.
