2015 NFL Draft: San Diego Chargers Select Melvin Gordon

The San Diego Chargers traded their No. 17 overall pick, a 4th-round pick this year, and a 5th-round pick next year to the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 15 overall pick to select Melvin Gordon out of Wisconsin.

Position: Running Back

Measurables: 6’1”, 3215 lbs, 32 3/8” arm length, 9 3/4” hands

Analysis:

Gordon produced and produced and produced some more during his time at Wisconsin, and his ability to maintain top speed on his cuts both inside and outside means that his game projects well in the high-octane NFL. He’s also got very long legs, and can cover major ground with just a few steps — turning two yard gains into three-and-a-half or four-yard pickups.

Scouts have some concerns about his pass-catching and blocking abilities, but that won’t stop them from drafting the guys who produced the second-most prolific rushing season (behind Barry Sanders) in college football history.
