ANAHEIM – The Angels found a new way to lose Saturday night.
The Angels lost, 4-2, to the Tampa Bay Rays after a throw by Andrelton Simmons hit Steven Souza, costing them an out in the decisive ninth inning.
Souza had led off the inning with a single against Joe Smith. Souza then tried to steal but the Angels had him dead at second, so Souza slammed on the brakes and ran back to first.
Simmons, a two-time Gold Glove shortstop with an exceptionally strong and accurate arm, hit Souza with his throw back to first.
