Richards undergoing MRI on right biceps

OAKLAND -- Angels right-hander Garrett Richards will undergo a precautionary MRI on Friday in Anaheim, general manager Billy Eppler said Thursday.

Richards departed his start against the A's on Wednesday after experiencing right biceps cramping in the fifth inning. Richards, who had tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, later said he wasn't concerned about the issue.

Richards was making his first Major League start since May 1, 2016. The 28-year-old ace missed nearly all of last season after suffering a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament, though he opted for a stem-cell injection, rather than Tommy John surgery, to attempt to heal his damaged right elbow.
