ANAHEIM -- Angels shortstop Cliff Pennington left Thursday night's game against the Cardinals with cramping in his left hamstring, the team announced.
Pennington was removed with no outs in the top of the fifth inning during Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty's at-bat. Brendan Ryan replaced Pennington at shortstop. Pennington was 2-for-2 with an RBI when he was removed from the game.
This is not the first injury issue the Angels have had at the position this week. Andrelton Simmons sustained a thumb injury in Sunday's loss to the Rays, and has since gone on the disabled list after undergoing thumb surgery.
