Fireballer Newcomb tabbed for Futures Game

Newcomb, who will be on the U.S. roster at the prestigious showcase, has posted a 2.61 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP while pitching at both Class A levels in his first full season of pro ball, walking 4.7 batters and striking out 11.8 per nine innings.

The 22-year-old left-hander is 6-foot-5 with a 245-pound frame, a clean, easy-to-repeat delivery and a fastball that sits in the mid-90s with relative ease.

"He throws 95 [mph] and it looks like he's playing catch," Angels director of player development Bobby Scales recently said of Newcomb, ranked second in the Angels' system and 55th overall by MLBPipeline.
