Angels' Yunel Escobar not in lineup for series opener against Detroit

ANAHEIM -- Third baseman Yunel Escobar, who left Sunday's extra-innings loss to Houston with a left wrist contusion, was not in the lineup for the Angels' series opener on Monday against the Detroit Tigers.

The club had listed Escobar as day to day. He left the game in the third inning after trying to field a ground ball.

Gregorio Petit took his place at third base, with Cliff Pennington, recently activated from the disabled list, at shortstop. Right fielder Kole Calhoun is hitting leadoff.

Escobar has a team-leading 59 hits this season, tied with Mike Trout.
