ANAHEIM – Joe Smith’s vow to return to the Angels before the end of the regular season has never looked more realistic than it did after his workout Monday.
Smith, who is recovering from a sprained left ankle, did fielding drills and agility work. On Tuesday he is expected to throw his second full bullpen session, following Sunday’s workout.
“I’m confident,” Smith said of a return before the end of the regular season Sunday. “I want to pitch. I just want to make sure. The scary thing is with a front leg injury, if you are favoring it at all when you pitch, stress goes to different areas and ends up in the arm.
