NEW YORK -- On Tuesday, Joe Smith was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, an injury the Angels' setup man had been trying to pitch through for the better part of the last three weeks.
Mike Morin, sent to Triple-A Salt Lake after posting a 5.48 ERA in 25 appearances with the Angels this season, was called up to take Smith's spot on the active roster. The Angels also called up left-hander David Huff, who will make a spot start against the Yankees on Tuesday night in place of the injured Nick Tropeano (right shoulder).
