OAKLAND – The Angels recalled Efren Navarro before Wednesday’s game, increasing their active roster to 35 players.
Manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels had planned to call up Navarro sometime in the next week, but their decision to have Albert Pujols DH for a second straight day on Wednesday prompted the move.
Navarro is a premium defensive first baseman, so he can go in for defense late in games that C.J. Cron starts at first.
Scioscia said having Navarro won’t allow him to DH Pujols any more frequently in September, though.
