Mead said in a statement he was "humbled and excited" to be named the Hall of Fame's president and said it was an "amazing privilege" to follow close friend Idelson as president.
Mead becomes the seventh president in the 80-year history of the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is located in Cooperstown, New York.
