Angels' Huston Street says bullpen usage revolution is neither imminent nor sustainable

/ STAFF WRITER

TEMPE, Ariz. – Huston Street loved watching the way managers used their relievers in the postseason last year.

Listening to the analysis of it? Not so much.

As managers like the Indians’ Terry Francona and the Cubs’ Joe Maddon were using their relievers in non-traditional roles, much of the baseball intelligentsia seized upon the opportunity to usher in a new era of bullpen management.

Street, owner of 324 career saves, has been a vocal opponent of the theory that bullpen roles should be less rigid or even abolished entirely.

The Angels’ reliever could only shake his head when hearing October used as an example that a revolution is coming.
