Angels GM Jerry Dipoto offers few specifics regarding his resignation

/ STAFF WRITER

Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said Wednesday he has resigned amid reports of a fractured relationship with longtime manager Mike Scioscia.

There was no immediate word on who would replace Dipoto, although it is unlikely the Angels would hand the reigns to someone from outside the organization at this time of year, with the trading deadline a month away.

Matt Klentak, one of two assistant general managers, would be a natural alternative for a seamless transition. The Angels also still have former GM Bill Stoneman on staff as an advisor.

Dipoto, who spent three and a half seasons as the Angels general manager, and Scioscia had differing philosophies throughout their time together, with Dipoto more analytically-inclined and Scioscia preferring more traditional methods.
