The Angels designated first baseman/outfielder Efren Navarro for assignment Tuesday. He had been in their organization for nearly a decade after being drafted in the 50th round in 2007.
His designation was necessary because the Angels also made official their signing of reliever Al Alburquerque.
That signing, a one-year contract, was first reported last week. Alburquerque, 29, figures to become a middle reliever for the Angels. He has a career 3.20 ERA in 225 innings, with massive strikeout and walk rates of 11 and five, respectively, per nine innings.
Navarro could return to the Angels for a 10th season in 2016.
