Angels burned by home runs early, Ramón Laureano late

Home runs were flying for the third straight game at Angel Stadium, but it was the Athletics who held the advantage on Wednesday afternoon, preventing a sweep with a 8-4 win over the Angels.

On one hand, Griffin Canning didn’t walk anybody on Wednesday, after issuing a career-high six free passes last Friday in Texas. But he allowed an awful lot of hard contact in a second straight short start.

Canning only allowed one home run in his first three starts, but he flipped that against the A’s. a Matt Olson, Robbie Grossman, and Stephen Piscotty took him deep, which helped limit Canning to just four innings, allowing four runs.
