Who is Christo Lamprecht, the unknown amateur leading The Open? The 22-year-old South African from Georgia Tech who stands at SIX FOOT EIGHT, enjoys hunting... and until today had never competed in a major

Christo Lamprecht is standing tall on his major debut - the 6ft 8ins amateur leads The Open after a superb opening round at Royal Liverpool.

The 22-year-old is in his senior year at Georgia Tech, where he is majoring in Business Administration.

The South Africa native, who was introduced to golf aged three by his father, has one eye on becoming a financial manager or advisor but he appears to have a bright future on the course, too.

On Thursday, 3,500 miles away from his Atlanta home, he shot a first-round 66 at the 151st Open Championship.
