Timo Werner new contract has low release clause

The German international had been linked with moves to reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Champions League winners Liverpool over the summer.

It looked as though either club could sign him on a free transfer next summer had he not agreed a new four-year deal in Leipzig.

The 23-year-old joined Leipzig back in 2016 from Stuttgart and has been a stand-out performer for the Die Bullen, forming a formidable partnership with Denmark's Yussuf Poulsen.

According to Kicker, his new contract includes a release clause of just €30 million.

The low release clause likely explains his change of heart when it came to penning the new deal as any top club would be able to afford it.
