'They built the club on the sports project of a coach... at Manchester United, they bet on stars': Robin van Persie urges his former side to follow Liverpool's lead and overlook big 'names' such as Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez in future

Manchester United need to learn from Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and abandon signing 'stars' over players that fit the manager's philosophy, according to ex-United striker Robin van Persie.

Liverpool have been transformed since Klopp arrived in 2015 and the Reds are 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table at the time of the league-wide suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's United side are 37 points adrift of their bitter rivals and for Van Persie, the way to change that is to show a shift in mentality in the transfer market.
