Lawrie Sanchez should be completing the final submission for a master’s degree but activity on his phone indicates it’s that time of year again.

Sanchez picks up and is soon recalling a conversation with a friend in the hazy days which followed Wimbledon’s 1988 FA Cup win. ‘He told me it’d never go down as a classic and that stuck in the craw a little bit.

‘Here we are 32 years later, they’ve made films, TV shows and radio documentaries about it. One of them was part of a BBC Series called Clash of the Titans and Alan Hansen was saying he couldn’t understand the title because Wimbledon had never been titans.
