Abolish replays. With football's calendar crammed to bursting point, what better way of shedding some excess baggage than doing away with the 'unnecessary' fixtures that clutter the early midweeks in January and February?
The Football Association, in their wisdom, have already started taking steps down that road. On May 26 last year, Martin Glenn announced there would be no replays to decide the 2017 quarter-finals as the change would 'help the Cup retain its status as a much-loved competition.'
Will it really? Or will it just give those who see the old pot as an increasing distraction in the financially obsessed modern game further ammunition to demand that, someday soon, all replays are scrapped?
