Rangers legend Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT a lot of supporters wanted Neil Warnock as their next manager, not Steven Gerrard.
Former Liverpool and England captain Gerrard is expected to be unveiled as the Scottish Premiership club’s new boss on Friday.
It is understood the 37-year-old, who has been working as a coach in Liverpool’ academy since hanging up his boots in 2016, has signed a three-year deal to replace Graeme Murty, who was sacked by the Gers on Tuesday.
Gerrard will bring in former Scotland star and one-time Liverpool team-mate Gary McAllister as his assistant.
