Mason Holgate faces a ban as FA open investigation into 'homophobic tweets'

Mason Holgate could face a misconduct charge and a ban after the Football Association opened an investigation into historic, allegedly 'homophobic' tweets.

Posts sent from Holgate's account in 2012 were unearthed last week, featuring terms including 'faggot' and 'battyboy', after Everton's FA Cup defeat at Liverpool.

The Toffees centre back could now face FA action despite only being a 15-year-old at former club Barnsley when the comments were posted.
