While Caoimhin Kelleher was reflecting on helping Liverpool reach the Carabao Cup final in his trademark, laidback fashion last month, in his native Cork excited messages were quickly pinging about on social media between those who have followed his career closely.

'I saw a few in a few groups, people talking about going up to London,' Sean Fitzgerald, secretary at Kelleher's old youth club Ringmahon Rangers, said the morning after.

'Some of the lads were talking about it on Snapchat and Facebook last night. There might be a little Ringmahon Rangers contingent at Wembley and a flag up in the ground somewhere.
