Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum says 'violent' diarrhoea caused him to lose fitness and weight

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed that a 'violent infection' lasting two weeks caused him to lose weight and kept him sidelined for almost a month.

Jurgen Klopp revealed in early March that Wijnaldum was out of the Premier League fixture with Newcastle due to diarrhoea and the Holland international has now explained that he was so ill, he is still returning to full fitness.

'I was hit by a violent infection which caused me to lose weight,' Wijnaldum said to De Telegraaf.
