Liverpool have promoted Michael Edwards to Sporting Director… but what does this mean for Jurgen Klopp and stars arriving at Anfield?

It is an important day for Liverpool with confirmation arriving that Michael Edwards has been promoted to become the club's first Sporting Director.

He will be charged with ensuring the day-to-day running of Melwood, Liverpool's training base, is smooth and will take on a number of responsibilities that enable Jurgen Klopp to focus on improving the team.

Most significantly, Edwards will have the task of negotiating all transfers and player contracts going forward, something that had been the duty of Ian Ayre, the chief executive who will leave his role at the end of the season to join Munich 1860.
