Liverpool representatives have used the opportunity of talks with Sporting Lisbon over terminating Lazar Markovic's loan agreement to speak to the Portuguese side about signing William Carvalho.
Reds winger Markovic moved to Portugal on loan for the season in the summer, but the deal was cancelled by mutual consent after he failed to make his mark.
Besides taking the decision on Markovic, Liverpool officials were also in Lisbon to talk about the possibility of roping in Carvalho, who has been a long-term-target for Arsenal.
According to A Bola, the Premier League club would need to shell out in excess of £26m to sign the Portugal international, whose present contract with Sporting Lisbon runs until 2020.
