Liverpool have confirmed that a supporter has died after they were taken ill ahead of kick-off of the Champions League clash with Benfica on Wednesday evening.
Emergency services tended to the fan inside the ground ahead of the quarter-final second leg. He was taken to hospital where he later passed away.
According to reports, the incident happened 20 minutes before the match started.

A club spokesperson said: 'It is with great regret that Liverpool Football Club can confirm that a supporter who was taken ill ahead of last night’s fixture against Benfica has sadly passed away.
