Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk responds to trophy parade crash that left 65 injured - with suspect, 53, accused of attempted murder and drug-driving

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has sent a heartfelt message to fans after a car ploughed into a group of people following the club's trophy parade on Monday evening.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Water Street in Liverpool city centre after thousands had flocked the streets to see their heroes following the Reds' Premier League title success.

Merseyside Police have now confirmed that 65 people were injured, including children, with 50 taken to hospital for further treatment. The suspect, a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, has been arrested and is accused of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving under the influence of drugs.
