LFC Foundation launches Friday night football league

Funded by Merseyside Police’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), the league will run fixtures at Anfield Sports and Community Centre every Friday evening for a 12-week period from January 17.

The VRU was set up by Merseyside Police using funding from the government’s Serious Violence Fund, and aims to bring together the police, local authorities, health and education professionals and community leaders to tackle violence in the region.

Supported by local anti-knife crime project, Real Men Don’t Carry Knives, the youth engagement league will double up as an educational programme, with each participating team expected to complete two workshops focused on reducing knife crime and youth violence.
