Legendary jockey AP McCoy brands Animal Rising protesters 'attention seekers' after they delayed the Grand National by getting onto the course as he says they've got 'no understanding of how horses are cared for'

Animal rights activists were branded ‘attention seekers’ on Saturday after storming the course at Aintree and forcing a delay to the start of the Grand National.

Dozens of protesters from a group called Animal Rising scaled perimeter fences and at least two activists tried to glue themselves to the second jump at the Liverpool track.

Crowds cheered as police and security carted the invaders away, with Merseyside Police later confirming 26 arrests at the course.

The start of the race — won by 8-1 favourite Corach Rambler — was held up by around 15 minutes with racing legend AP McCoy accusing the rabble of failing to understand horse welfare.
