Joe Gomez comes through unscathed in first 90 minutes since return from injury as Liverpool Under 23s win

Joe Gomez took a major step on his road to full recovery by coming through a full 90 minutes as Liverpool Under 23s beat Burnley 4-0 in the second round of the Lancashire Senior Cup.

Gomez played as one of three centre-backs, alongside Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori, during another impressive display from the Reds at the Kirkby Academy on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October 2015, and has not featured since, but he looked very comfortable in possession and also provided an assist in the one-sided match.

Gomez played seven games at the start of last season, impressing under former manager Brendan Rodgers before suffering a cruel injury blow, but he can reflect on a fine performance in helping Michael Beale's keep a clean sheet.
