Internationals: Mixed fortunes for Reds on duty

Virgil van Dijk captained the Netherlands as they lost 2-1 away to World Cup winners France in the UEFA Nations League. Georginio Wijnaldum also started for the Dutch and both Reds played the full 90 minutes.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for France before ex-Red Ryan Babel levelled, but Chelsea striker Oliver Giroud scored a brilliant volley to claim the winner.

On-loan Ben Woodburn came on as a 79th minute substitute as Wales lost 2-0 away to Denmark in their Nations League tie. Harry Wilson remained on the bench.
