'I'm still wounded': Paris police chief Didier Lallement admits his Champions League final failures haunt him as he retires from role less than three months after causing chaotic scenes that saw Liverpool fans teargassed outside Stade Denis

Paris police chief Didier Lallement admits he is 'still wounded' by his own failures during this season's Champions League final, as he steps down from his role.

The 65-year-old, who will retire from the job ahead of his 66th birthday next week, has accepted full responsibility for police failures that saw thousands of Liverpool supporters caught up in chaotic scenes ahead of their clash with Real Madrid on May 28.

Initially, police had attempted to blame ticketless Reds fans, claiming that more than 30,000 fake tickets were in circulation, causing the robust response from officials.
