Liverpool's hopes of bolstering an injury hit defence in January have been dealt a severe blow with prime target Perr Schuurs revealing he is prepared to turn down an Anfield move.

Schuurs has impressed playing in the Ajax defence this term and Liverpool were reportedly keen on making a £27million move for him in January.

However, after featuring in his side's 1-0 defeat by the Reds in the Champions League on Tuesday night the 21-year-old admitted he was not ready to leave the Dutch champions.
