Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise attends the unveiling of his statue at boyhood club Aalesund

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has been honoured with a statue at his boyhood club Aalesund.

Riise, who started his career with Aalesund before returning for a second spell in 2016, was present at the unveiling and described it on Instagram as a humbling experience.

The former Norway international is best remembered for his spell at Liverpool, for whom he played between 2001 and 2008, winning the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
