Damning Virgil van Dijk stat emerges after Liverpool star gave away bizarre penalty in Champions League clash with PSV

Virgil van Dijk has given away the most penalties of any Premier League player this season after conceding a bizarre spot-kick in Liverpool's clash with PSV.

Van Dijk was penalised for a clear handball just five minutes into the Champions League tie at home to the Dutch side.

The Liverpool defender rose to defend a cross and blocked the ball with his hand, which was raised high above his head.

Van Dijk protested, seemingly claiming he was fouled, but the decision to award the penalty was upheld by VAR and Ivan Perisic converted the resulting spot-kick to give PSV a surprise 1-0 lead.
