Benfica lowdown: Darwin Nunez spearheads the side out to shock Liverpool in the Champions League

While the bulk of this season's Champions League quarter-finalists are familiar with the latter stages of Europe's elite club competition, Benfica are on uncommon ground.

A clash with Liverpool is the Portuguese side's first tie in the last eight since 2016, when they were beaten by Bayern Munich. Back-to-back winners of the European Cup in the early 1960s, Benfica are aiming to reach the semi-finals for the first time in 32 years.

The bookmakers have Nelson Verissimo's side as the least likely of the eight remaining teams to lift the famous trophy, but having already sprung a few surprises this season they will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds again.
