'Anywhere on the pitch that's a red': Fans and ex-players are left stunned as Robert Sanchez escapes a card despite VAR reviewing his RECKLESS challenge on Luis Diaz... with Jamie Carragher convinced he'd have been sent off if goal hadn't stood

Liverpool fans and former players alike reacted with astonishment after Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez escaped a red card for taking out Luis Diaz as he scored their opener at the Amex Stadium.

The Colombian bravely stuck his head in to direct Joel Matip's long ball past the onrushing Sanchez, who then felled him with a raised leg into Diaz's midriff.

Diaz was left floored and requiring treatment while the Video Assistant Referee Stuart Attwell checked for serious foul play.

But the decision was made not to even show Sanchez a yellow card, let alone a red, after replays were checked with on-field referee Mike Dean restarting the game.
