Andy Robertson breaks the record for most assists by a defender in Premier League history - surpassing Leighton Baines - after registering his 54TH by setting up Mohamed Salah in Liverpool's clash with Aston Villa

Andy Robertson has broken the record for the most assists for a defender in Premier League history after setting up Mohamed Salah for Liverpool's opening goal against Aston Villa on Monday.

The Scottish full-back went into the match with 53 top-flight assists to his name, putting him level with former Everton and Wigan defender Leighton Baines.

It took him just five minutes to move past the former England international as he latched onto Trent Alexander-Arnold's through ball and played a square ball into the path of Salah.
