Allan Saint-Maximin is hopeful that Liverpool target Marcus Thuram will instead join him at Newcastle.
Both clubs, along with Manchester United, have both been linked with the Borussia Monchengladbach and France star, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Saint-Maximin admitted he's hopeful the Magpies can sign his French compatriot.
When asked about Thuram, he said: 'He is a great player and I hope we have a chance to take him here.
