Newcastle United revive interest in Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury... but boss Steve Bruce faces battle to persuade owner Mike Ashley to increase transfer budget

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has rekindled his interest in Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

Bruce wanted to sign the England U21 international in January but Leicester were unwilling to let him out after Dennis Praet picked up a hamstring injury.

Now, with Leicester having lined up the £20million signing of Lille's Boubakary Soumare, they would be willing to listen to offers. Bruce's main problem though will be persuading owner Mike Ashley to increase his transfer budget.

Newcastle are advancing with their £8million move for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer and have discussed a deal for Wigan striker Kyle Joseph but that will leave little left in the coffers for the likes of Choudhury or Joe Willock who has impressed on loan from Arsenal.
