Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel crowned Danish Player of the Year after Premier League triumph

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been crowned the 2016 Danish Player of the Year after helping his team to a stunning Premier League title last season.

The 30-year-old, who was also nominated for the award in 2014 and 2015, broke Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen’s three-year stranglehold over the award after his role in the 5000-1 upset.

Schmeichel was presented with the trophy by his father, Manchester United legend Peter, also a previous winner, at the annual awards show staged by Danish TV channel DR on Saturday.
