If Leicester City had their way last summer, their title winning squad would never have included a key component.
Steve Walsh picked out Idrissa Gueye as the man the Foxes needed in their midfield. Gueye, in a moment of judgement that ranks alongside Decca turning down The Beatles in favour of the Tremeloes, decided to move to Aston Villa.
Walsh's side snapped up N'Golo Kante instead. Kante, a perpetual motion machine of a footballer, was integral as Claudio Ranieri led Leicester to the most unexpected title in the history of the Premier League. Villa finished 20th.

It is probably symbolic, though, that despite Villa's relegation, one of the first things Walsh did when he arrived at Goodison Park was to sign Gueye.
