Former Leicester City Premier League title-winning manager Claudio Ranieri admits it would be "something special" to take over as Italy head coach.

The 66-year-old is currently enjoying a inspired spell in charge of Ligue 1 side Nantes, after being sacked by the Foxes last season.

His dismissal was deemed harsh, given the Italian had achieved a near-impossible feat in guiding Leicester to the title the year before.

And following Italy's failure to qualify for the World Cup next summer, the vacant role is one that most certainly appeals to Ranieri.

"For now I'm the coach of Nantes," he told Domenica Sportiva.
