Danny Drinkwater can seize a recall to Sam Allardyce’s England squad by proving himself in the Champions League, according to Claudio Ranieri.
Roy Hodgson cut the midfielder from his 23-man squad on the eve of Euro 2016 but the Leicester manager believes competing in Europe’s elite competition will provide the perfect stage to convince Allardyce he should add to his three caps.
Leicester lost to Hull to get their Premier League title defence off to a deflating start but Ranieri is targeting the knock-out stages of the Champions League ahead of the group draw on August 25, when his team are seeded in top pot, and thinks Drinkwater will be key to their chances.
